Women who have large and sagging breasts are prone to various medical problems because of the heaviness of their breasts. These may include pain in the back or neck, skin rash and breathing problems.
The breast reduction surgery, which in medical terms is called reduction mammoplasty, is an operation designed for women who have this problem.
Reduction mammoplasty operations are performed under general anesthesia. The operations take on average 3 hours. The patient can check out of the hospital the day she has the operation or the following day and will return to the hospital for follow-ups every 2-3 days. Patients do not experience severe pain after reduction mammoplasty surgeries.
