The skin of the upper eyelids droops and loosens with the ageing process while bags and wrinkles form on the lower eyelids. It causes heaviness on the eyelids and a tired, sad, worried or angry expression on the face. Additionally, sleeplessness and genetic factors might cause drooping.
Blepharoplasty may be performed alone or together with other operations such as a face lift or a brow lift.

The most suitable candidates for blepharoplasty operations are males or females who are realistic in their expectations that are over the age of 30-35.
Blepharoplasty surgery is an procedure to repair such complaints. The upper and lower eye lids are dealt with separately. The surgical intervention for each area is different. The surgery is performed using local anesthesia on the crease of the upper eye lid while it is performed through general anesthesia or sedation right under the eyelashes of the lower eye lids. In this way, it is ensured that the signs of the operation are not evident.
Blepharoplasty surgery is performed in a medical centre or in a hospital, usually under local anesthesia and sedation. It takes one or two hours. The patient may be required to stay in the hospital in cases when general anesthesia is used or the operation is performed together with the other operations.
It is important that you do not smoke and use blood diluents such as aspirin for at least 7 days before the blepharoplasty surgery. These limitations should continue for at least 7 days after the blepharoplasty surgery as well. Otherwise the patient might experience bleeding which will affect the recovery period negatively.
There might be a certain level of purpleness and swelling after the operation. It will be helpful to apply cold compression to relieve these signs. The swelling and the purpleness under the eyes may not vanish until 7 days after the operation but the patient can use make-up after the 5th day and return to his/her normal routine.
It is recommended that the patient does not use contact lenses or wear sunglasses when he goes out for two weeks after the operation.The visible signs of the operations will totally vanish within one month and full recovery is achieved six months following the surgery.
