Eyelid Operation/Blepharoplasty

 Eyelids have both aesthetic and functional significance which affect the facial expression and external appearance. The area surrounding the eye is one of the first regions where the effects of aging manifest themselves in the face. As the age advances loosening and sagging occur in the upper eyelid. Eyelid operation is performed in a medical center or hospital generally under local anesthesia and sedation. It is generally completed in 1-2 hours. The duration depends on the extent of the operation.
When it is performed in combination with other operations under general anesthesia, the patient should stay at the hospital for one night. As the effect of anesthesia decreases, you may feel tension and some pain in your eyelids. However, these can be controlled by analgesics recommended by your physician.
Your physician recommends that you keep your head high and apply cold compresses for a few days. Many physicians give eye drops to relieve the dryness felt initially in the eyelids or burning and pruritus in the eyes.
Positive effect lasts for years
After the operation you may experience mild lacrimation and photophobia in your eyes in the first few weeks. The sutures will be removed in a period ranging from the second day after the operation to one week. You will see that you look and feel better every passing day.
It is not possible to wear contact lenses for 2 weeks. Many patients feel themselves ready to go outside or return to work in a few days after the operation. Your eye may be sensitive to sunlight, wind or other irritant factors. Therefore, it is recommended that you wear sunglasses when you go outside.
Your physician will recommend you to decrease your activities to minimum for 3-5 days. It would be better, if you avoid forcing activities for 2 weeks. The positive result of eyelid operation lasts for years.
