Beard, Mustache and Sideburns Transplantation

Sakal, Bıyık ve Favori NakliWhatever healthy hair means for women, hair and mustache carry the same meaning for men. However, not all men have the amount of beard and mustache on their face they desire.

According to the statistics performed by the International Hair Surgery Association (ISHRS) in 2008 the request of beard and mustache transplantation has increased by 110% in Turkey and surrounding regions with the increasing knowledge of the population about hair transplantation.

Why men lose their beard or mustache?
The intensity, tissue and quality of the beard are completely controlled by genes. After the adolescence period, beard hair thickens and become dense for 3 years and gain their terminal forms. Unless an important change occurs in the levels of testosterone, beard hair maintains this characteristic property.

Beard and mustache loss may arise from autoimmune diseases or skin diseases. Other than these, the most severe picture arises from hormonal imbalances. In men, testosterone should be checked, when the level is below the threshold value. Beard loss is also observed in the disease called alopecia areata.

There is currently no cosmetic treatment or drug treatment to grow hair on the region where hair is lost. This is also valid for beard and mustache hair.

The only permanent solution is beard and mustache transplantation.

How is beard and mustache transplantation performed and in who performs the operation?
Beard and mustache transplantation can be performed from the age of 20-22 when the hormones settle at the basal level.
This procedure is preferred in men who want to grow their sideburns and who like 2 days unshaved beard appearance, but whose beard hair grow irregularly and defective.

Beard and mustache transplantation can be performed in men who have no beard as well as in healthy men who have patches of lost hair on the beard region. Transplantation on the region where scar is present is one of the most commonly performed procedures.

Beard-mustache transplantation can be performed to everyone who has hair on the scalp. The operation is performed by extracting hair roots from the region between the ears with thin hair just above the nape or from the area above the ears.

In beard and mustache transplantation, FUE method is performed in people who accept haircut and FUT method is performed in people who do not want to shave their head completely.

The skin has red crusts during the healing period turns back to its normal appearance after one week or ten days without leaving any scar. The hair transplanted in the region of beard and mustache cannot be diminished from one’s own beard and mustache hair with naked eye. The result is natural and permanent.
