Breast Augmentation Operation
|
Breast augmentation operations can be performed in cases including the person’s thought that her breasts are small, reduction of the breasts after pregnancy and difference in the dimensions of the breasts. In case of breast volume loss, operation can be recommended as a reconstructive surgery technique.
The women’s breast size can be augmented to one or more size bigger than the current bra size by placement of filling material behind each breast by aesthetic surgeons.
Currently, filling materials used in breast augmentation operations are composed of prostheses which are silicone sacs filled with gel or saline water. As with all operations, some risks and a possibility of complication are present also in this procedure. You should fully understand the risks and operation results by talking with your doctor. At the first visit, your health status and your breasts and skin are evaluated and you are informed about the operation technique which is appropriate for you. Studies performed have shown that there are no scientific data or proof indicating that breast implants affect fertility, pregnancy or breastfeeding or cause breast cancer.
Placement Method The method of placement and the position of the implant depend on your anatomy and the aesthetic surgeon’s recommendation. The cut may be in the fold where the breast is combined with the chest or in the areola which is the dark area surrounding the nipple. Your doctor takes care that the cut is in the area which is least visible so that the post-operative scars are possibly unapparent. The implants are placed under the nipples in a position centering them.
In operations where breast silicone is placed under the chest muscle, post-operative first few days are more painful compared to operations where the silicone is placed under the breast tissue. Breast operations are performed under general anesthesia in a hospital and it is recommended to stay at the hospital for one night. The procedure lasts about 1-2 hours. The cuts are closed with small sutures and are tightly bandaged for support.
Although you can stand up and walk in 24-48 hours following the operation, you may feel yourself tired for a few days and you may feel slight pain. Mostly your pain is controlled by simple analgesics recommended by your physician. You are recommended to wear a special bra after the operation. This bra should be worn according to your physician’s instructions. The sutures are removed in one week -10 days. The edema in your breasts relieves fully in 3-5 weeks.
A few days after the operation you can return to your work. The time for you to return to your work is directly related to the intensity of activity of your work. You should obey the recommendations of your doctor about exercise and returning to normal activities. Your breasts may be sensitive to direct stimuli for 2-3 weeks. Therefore, you should possibly avoid physical contact. 3-4 weeks after the operation pain and sensitivity you feel in your breasts will decrease. Therefore, physical contact is no more harmful. As months pass, wound scars are relieved.
The results of breast augmentation operations are satisfactory for many women both physically and emotionally. Regular examinations by your plastic surgeon after the operation are very significant in the healing process. Desiring a breast augmentation operation is an individual decision. The important point is what you feel about this. If your expectations have been fulfilled, the operation can be considered to be successful.
