Rhinoplasty is generally performed under general anesthesia in a hospital. You have to stay at the hospital for one night after the operation. Rhinoplasty lasts approximately one or two hours.
After the operation a plaster cast is used to maintain the new form of your nose. Swelling may be present in the eyelids especially in the first 24 hours after the operation. Mild pain can be controlled by simple analgesics recommended by your doctor. Cold compress application decreases swelling and makes you feel more comfortable. You may feel an obstruction which can last a few weeks. At the end of the first week, all bandages and sutures are removed and the patient can go on with his/her normal life.
Patients go back to normal the next day Most of the patients who have rhinoplasty operation stand up the next day and can return to work in the first week. It is appropriate to avoid forcing activities for two weeks.
You should avoid striking your nose and exposing to the sun for 8 weeks. You should be very kind to your nose when washing your hair and face and while putting make-up on. You should not wear eyeglasses for about 3 months until your nose recovers fully.
